The North Phoenix Hikers was originally founded as The Glendale Hiking Club in 1982 with a core group of members from the City of Glendale. The club expanded and currently has members throughout the North Phoenix Valley. In keeping with the changes, the club was renamed in 2021.
We offer organized hikes and an opportunity to socialize with others who enjoy the great outdoors. On club outings, reasonable consideration is given to accommodate participation according to skill level from the new to the experienced hiker.
We rely on members to lead our activities. The Club has hikes on most Thursdays and Sundays, and occasional Tuesday or Saturday hikes. Hikes start in the early morning, and end with a social gathering for coffee and snack, or for lunch, when appropriate. See our Scheduled Hikes page for a link to upcoming hikes.
We take two to three major trips each year to distant parks in Arizona and the nearby states. These trips are typically for 3 to 4 days.
Currently we have about fifty members of mostly retired people, but includes some members who arrange hiking around their work schedule.Though we don’t have regular meetings, we do gather for a picnic twice a year and for a December holiday party and fun gift exchange.
